I love the version from 1963 – the atmosphere in it, in particular.
I haven’t seen the 1999 version, however.
The 1963 is one of my favorite movies. I’ve seen the 1999 version. It’s… well, it’s not good. I wanted to like it because I enjoy Liam Neeson, Owen Wilson and Catherine Zeta-Jones, but Lili Taylor really ruined it. That, and a pretty weak script for a remake.
I love this series you’re doing. The first Haunting is one of my faves too. Sooo creepy!
’63 was better by FAR! I don’t know why the bothered with the ’99 version. That was just… weak!

This is virtually my all-time favorite movie! If I ever find myself in England again I’ve got to book a night at the Ettington Park hotel, knowing full well the movie interiors were all soundstage! Just walking outdoors in the evening is all I ask.
I haven’t seen the remake, but the 1963 version is great. Actually it’s better even than Shirley Jackson’s original novel. And the house was terrific.
